So, here we go.  Stepping into the void of the unknown to fill a higher purpose is sometimes scary, and I am damn scared.  It’s that stomach-in-your-throat with an ear-to-ear grin kind of scary, you know it’s right, but you also know you haven’t experienced it before. It’s that feeling before dropping into that coveted couloir, or that feeling when your wife shows you the positive pregnancy test; life is going to change hard and fast, and how you accept it determines its course.

We, AJ and Nelson, stepped into that void last year. We ditched our corporate careers to chase fulfilled, giving, and free lives.  As avid adventurers, curious creators, and passionate athletes, we decided to depart from the norm and venture into the unknown.

Written by my late cousin one rainy winter in the Cascades, this quote keeps popping into my head when I think about the path we’ve chosen.

“So here I sit. It’s 36 degrees and raining… again.  Yup, by all accounts it sucks outside.  But ahead lies a fork in the road; I know which direction I will take.  Grab a poncho, put your spare goggles in a zip lock bag, and get after it. There’s no time like the present; we are all subjects of a natural cycle.  What we choose to do with the time we are given is our choice.”

Our adventure is both simple and substantial; ride our bikes from Vancouver, CA to Tijuana, MX and raise $20,000 for charity along the way.  The charity, Touch a Life, will use that money for education and tuition for trafficked children rescued by the foundation.

Hold on, my 1-year-old would like to contribute to this post,

Anyways, as I write and ride along the coast, AJ will be riding, filming, and documenting the adventure’s finest and worst moments.  You’ll see the highs, the lows, and everything in between.  We hope to share this adventure with you in an effort to inspire you to help us raise the funds required for Touch a Life’s mission.  We also hope to inspire you to get out and get after it, find what makes you uncomfortable and go conquer it. We did, and continue to do so. And while it may not be the smoothest of paths, it’s the path we have chosen to take.  Do it, step out of your comfort zone and explore the void.  It will hurt at times and reward you at others, but the unknown is the best part.

More to come soon, but in the meantime, check out the rest of our website and make any donations here at www.cycleforthefuture.com.
